Good News! “Wicked” themed attractions could be coming to a Universal Studios theme park after one company executive talked about the possibility of the Land of Oz to life.
Universal’s theme park chief, Mark Woodbury, discussed the possibility in an interview with The New York Times and teased “secret plans” for Wicked-themed attractions.
This wouldn’t be the first time Universal has developed experiences themed to the popular Broadway show and now movie. Before the “Wicked’ movie’s release last October, Universal Studios Hollywood showcased props from the film and released new food and merchandise themed to the film.
At Universal Studios Orlando, guests had the chance to visit “Wicked: The Experience,” where visitors could see Shiz University, Emerald City, and other Wicked locations.
According to blog posts, Universal Studios Japan also hosted an abbreviated version of the Broadway show from 2006 to 2011.
Due to the success of the “Wicked” movie, many Universal fans have wondered if a Wicked theme park would be in the works and where it would be located. Some thought the best fit would be Epic Universe, Universal Studios Orlando’s newest theme park, slated to open in May.
Other Universal Studios theme park attractions have been based on successful movie releases. In 2023, Universal Studios Hollywood opened Super Nintendo World in conjunction with the release of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” New attractions based on the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise will also be coming to Epic Universe.
Woodbury didn’t share where the proposed Wicked attractions would be located.
