Campus police issued a crime alert on Monday, saying officers are searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a UCLA student on campus.

The UCLA Police Department said the suspect, who is not a student, arrived in the 700 block of North Lane – otherwise known as Cypress Court – around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said the man was there to deliver food to the UCLA student. The student’s identity was not immediately made available to the public.

While getting the food from the delivery man, police said the suspect touched the victim’s body against the victim’s will.

The man then got into a dark-colored sedan and drove away from the scene, UCPD reported.

UCPD said the incident was reported to the department around 10:54 p.m., and no injuries were mentioned.

Police described the suspect as a man of short stature who seemed to be in his 50s-60s with gray hair and a full beard.

In addition, UCPD said the suspect was wearing a dark zip-up sweatshirt and cream-colored pants at the time of the reported sexual battery.

Police said while the incident is currently under investigation, they would like to remind the campus community to do the following:

  • Dial 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.
  • For non-emergencies, program the UCLA PD 24-hour phone number into your cell phone – 310-825-1491.
  • Always be alert and aware of your surroundings.
  • Report any suspicious activity to the police.
  • Do not leave doors to buildings propped open.
  • Secure your residence by locking all windows and doors.
  • Avoid poorly lit or deserted areas when walking at night.
  • Utilize the UCLA Safe Ride Service and UCPD CSO evening escorts.
