A man turned himself in for a hit-and-run in Tarzana that left a pedestrian in critical condition, police announced on Friday.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the felony hit-and-run happened around 9:25 a.m. on Feb. 11 on Roseda Boulevard and Clark Street.
The driver of a black Ford F-150 pick-up truck was heading southbound on Reseda Boulevard when he turned left onto Clark Street and hit a pedestrian in the marked crosswalk, LAPD said.
Before the driver took off, however, LAPD said he initially stopped, got out of his truck and went to where the victim was lying in the street.
The driver then returned to his truck and fled the scene eastbound on Clark Street, “failing to identify self or render aid as required by law,” LAPD said in a release.
LAPD did not immediately say how long the driver spent with the victim or what transpired between them – if anything.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and took the pedestrian to a local hospital in critical condition.
The pedestrian was only publicly identified as a man in his 60s. LAPD said the victim’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
Detectives sent out a release on the same day, asking any witnesses to come forward to identify the driver who they described as “a male wearing a baseball hat, blue jacket, and dark colored pants.”
It was the following day when the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Jessee Robinson of Tarzana, turned himself in at the West Valley police station, according to LAPD.
Valley Traffic detectives arrested and booked Robinson for a felony hit-and-run with a bail set at $80,000.
“Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” LAPD noted in a release.
