Reese Witherspoon has revealed who will play her famous well-known character Elle Woods in the upcoming “Legally Blonde” prequel.
What? Like it’s hard?
It turns out it was.
Witherspoon posted a video on Instagram of when she revealed to actress Lexi Minetree that she got the part.
In the video, Witherspoon expressed her excitement about telling Minetree the news before she walked into the door.
“Your audition tape was amazing,” Witherspoon touted. “We had to make a really hard decision the other day and we wanted to tell you in person because you’ve just worked really hard and we just wanted to tell you that you don’t have to audition anymore because you got the part.”
Minetree immediately burst into tears in disbelief before asking the “The Morning Show” actress if she could hug her.
After some laughs and more hugs, Witherspoon helped Minetree call her mom to let her know her daughter got the part.
“I wanted to tell you some really good news, but I would actually prefer to have Lexi tell you,” she said after introducing herself.
“I’m Elle Woods!” Minetree squealed.
“Isn’t it crazy? When I saw her tape I was like ‘Are we the same person? This is so weird,'” Witherspoon told Minetree’s mom, Anne.
“I’m so excited!” Minetree said after they got off the phone.
Minetree took to Instagram to thank Amazon Studios, Witherspoon’s media company Hello Sunshine, director Jason T. Moore and Witherspoon.
“I already love her so so much, I promise she’s in good hands,” she assured Witherspoon. “P.S. Thank you for showing me how amazing I am going to look in the future, soooo looking forward to that.”
She then thanked her hairdresser who helped her go blonde in May when she “had a random whim” to change her hair color, which she says he does about once a year. “I owe you big time!! Don’t worry Amazon, I won’t be changing from blonde ANYTIME soon!”
Witherspoon starred as the protagonist in the original “Legally Blonde” film in 2001, which is based on the comic novel by Amanda Brown. The film’s sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde” was released in 2003. A musical has also been adapted from the original film.
The “Legally Blonde” prequel is set to premiere on Prime Video, but a release date has not yet been set.
