A long-time California Lottery player and truck driver said he doesn’t plan to quit his job after winning $7.5 million with a Scratchers game.
Joel McCauley confirmed he bought the winning ticket at Liquor, Tobacco & More on Rengstorff Avenue in Mountain View, a store he frequently stops in before his workday to purchase the latest Scratchers games.
After scratching off his “2025 Scratchers,” he initially thought he had only won a few grand. “At first, I thought it was $7,500,” recalled McCauley.

It was only when he decided to double-check and scan the ticket again with the California Lottery app on his phone that McCauley realized he had actually won the top prize. “I turned my truck around and took the ticket home to leave it there,” said McCauley, who treated it like another normal day and casually headed into work.
He said he’s no newbie to winning the CA Lottery as he’s won “10K a couple of times” over the 20 years he has been playing.
So, what’s next for the newest millionaire? McCauley said he plans to invest his winnings, continue driving his truck to work and stop by the store to buy more Scratchers.
