EXCLUSIVE: Incredible Film has acquired global distribution rights to upcoming comedy feature After Party, from Dutch director Jean van de Velde, creator of the hit sports-themed franchise All Stars.

The company is launching pre-sales on the Netherlands-South African co-production at the EFM ahead of the shoot this September in Mauritius, as the first feature film to be filmed on its Island of Rodrigues.

Written and directed by van de Velde, the movie revolves around a childless couple in their early fifties who have enjoyed a fulfilling lifestyle, centred around their careers, wealth and freedom.

As young urban professionals, the world was their oyster but when health, wealth and youth is no longer on their side, the pair take drastic action to ensure they remain on top.

Dutch actor Thomas Acda, who collaborated with van de Velde on All Stars, with other credits including Zonen and Ome Cor, will lead the cast.

The movie is produced by Sunny Pictures and Banijay Benelux scripted label NL Film, under a first-look deal announced last September.

Sunny Pictures co-founding heads Mark Van Eeuwen (The Forgotten Battle, The Jewish Council) and Oscar-nominated director Paula Van Der Oest (The Forgotten Battle, The Jewish Council, Accused, The Split) exec produce.

“We’re excited to be able to unveil this project in time for EFM,” said Incredible Film CEO Daniëlle Raaphorst.

“After Party has the combination of action and comedy that audiences love, all around the world. Set on the incredible Island of Rodrigues, this international coproduction has all the elements to make it a success for buyers everywhere,” she added.

The company’s EFM slate also features upcoming cult horror film Amsterdamned II which will premiere in the Netherlands later this year, romantic comedy About Women, new drama Red Flags and romcom Love Fail Repeat.

Director van de Velde is best known internationally for his All Stars franchise, which began as a hit feature in 1997, and then expanded into an  Emmy Award-winning television show of the same name, whiile remakes included Things to Do Before You’re 30 in the UK.
