WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Residents are preparing for more snow and icy road conditions as a wintry mix is expected to make its way into the DMV.
Customers like Mary Mahoney are rushing into hardware stores to stock up on supplies before the winter storm moves in.
“I heard that there might be snow coming in the next couple [of] days so I wanted to be ready for it,” said Mahoney.
Mahoney said she wanted to make sure to get salt for her home to avoid having a slippery road.
“My steps are concrete and they get very slippery and I don’t want to fall,” said Mahoney. “I don’t want anybody else to fall.”
Wednesday night’s winter storm is expected to bring precipitation to the area, starting in the evening into Thursday morning.
“Based on the last snow storm we got, we are getting a lot of customers who want to be ready, who want to be prepared,” said Logan Hardware assistant manager Jordan Adler.
Adler said the store is adding more shipments of winter gear over the next couple of days.
“It’s going to be really important to watch out for ice on the windshield,” said Adler. “Ice on the car. Just to make sure that everyone is safe on the road.”
Bethesda Strosniders Hardware store has also been seeing a lot of customers coming in to stock up on supplies.
“I‘d rather have this stuff and not use it than not have it and have ice,” said customer Steve Polin.
So far, the DC Snow Team has deployed more than 70 trucks to treat the roads.
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MTDA) is also treating toll roads. It is urging people to cancel their nighttime travel plans.
