WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The United States Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C., is inviting plant lovers to explore thousands of orchids in its “Orchids: Masters of Deception” exhibit.
Opening on Valentine’s Day, the exhibit features both the “beautiful and deceptive” orchid flowering plants. The display will showcase some of the unique, bizarre, and intriguing orchid adaptations that deceive pollinators searching for food, mates and locations to lay their eggs.
To highlight D.C.’s beloved cherry trees, the presentation will feature two 9-foot tall tree sculptures covered in hundreds of pink and white orchids.
Throughout the exhibit, explorers can also find orchids wrapped around more than 20 lamps and an 8-foot curtains of orchids highlighting the roots that allow orchids to live without soil.
The garden’s “Orchids: Masters of Deception” marks the 29th annual joint orchid exhibit between the Botanic Garden and the Smithsonian Garden.
The exhibit will run until April 27.
