FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Maryland State Police (MSP) said a child was flown to the hospital after four vehicles collided on Interstate 70 in Frederick County Wednesday.
In a statement to DC News Now, MSP said that around 7:40 a.m. on Jan. 29, troopers were called to the I-70 eastbound ramp to MD Route 144 for a crash.
Their preliminary investigation revealed that a passenger van was trying to stop at a red light when it slammed into the back of another vehicle and overturned.
The impact of the collision caused a domino effect, and a third vehicle and school bus were hit.
State police said no children were on the school bus during the crash.
However, one child, who was in the passenger van, was flown to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Their condition is currently unknown.
There were no other injuries reported at the scene.
As of Wednesday morning, several lanes on I-70 were blocked off as crews continued to work on the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
