An arson suspect was arrested for allegedly setting fire to an open field in San Bernardino County.
The suspect was identified as Melyi Lopez, a 40-year-old homeless woman who frequents the Bloomington area, according to the Fontana Sheriff’s Station.
On Jan. 25, deputies responded to a fire in the 10800 block of Cedar Avenue in Bloomington at around 4:13 p.m.
The caller said he witnessed Lopez intentionally ignite the fire in an open field before fleeing the scene. The area was located near several businesses.
Several bystanders acted quickly and extinguished the flames before it could spread further.
Deputies located the woman nearby and took her into custody. She was arrested for arson and was booked into the West Valley Detention Center where she is being held on $30,000 bail.
