Snowfall and icy conditions forced officials to close a portion of the 5 Freeway through the Grapevine overnight.
California Highway Patrol Fort Tejon station officers had been escorting vehicles across the Grapevine summit until the closure was announced on X at 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

“The north and southbound I-5 is closed. Due to road conditions becoming hazardous,” the CHP stated.
The closure remained in place through the early morning hours of Monday and it was unclear when the freeway would reopen.
Motorists were told to use an alternate route and to “please travel safe.”
Heavy snow and ice also made travel dangerous on the 15 Freeway through the Cajon Pass in San Bernardino County. With the help of snowplows, the Cajon Pass has remained open with CHP escorts.
