STERLING, Va. (DC News Now) — A Republican congressman from North Carolina introduced a bill Thursday to rename Dulles International Airport (IAD) after President Donald Trump.
Congressman Addison McDowell introduced the legislation with Congressman Guy Reschanthaler (R-Pa.), Brandon Gill (R-Texas), Riley Morre (R-W.Va.) and Brian Jack (R-Ga.)
The bill would change IAD to Donald J. Trump International Airport.
“We have entered the golden age of America largely thanks to President Trump’s leadership,” McDowell stated in a news release.
“It is only right that the two airports servicing our nation’s capital are duly honored and respected by two of the best presidents to have the honor of serving our great nation,” he continued, alluding to Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Arlington, Va.
This is not the first time House Republicans have tried renaming Dulles after Trump. Nearly a year ago, in March 2024, Reschenthaler – who has now joined McDowell as a co-sponsor – introduced a similar bill.
The bill did not seem to gain much traction, having only been referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure after its initial introduction.
