CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Derrick Evans, a former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates 19th District (R), received a pardon from President Trump on Monday after he was previously convicted for his actions during January 6, 2021.
As part of his inauguration speech, President Trump pardoned 1,500 defendants related to that day. In a post made on X, Evans gave praise to God and Trump for the pardon.
“My name is cleared. I have my rights back. I have my life back,” Evans said in the post.
Evans was among many others that stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, even livestreaming parts of it on Facebook. He soon after plead guilty to felony civil disorder, resigned from his position at the House of Delegates and ultimately served a sentence of three months in prison.
He looked to make a political comeback by joining the West Virginia primaries in 2024 but lost to the incumbent, Republican Carol Miller.
