(NewsNation) — Five days remain to sign up for health insurance through the open enrollment process, which ends Jan. 15.
Open enrollment is the time when people can enroll in a new health insurance plan or renew or make changes to an existing one between November and January. This includes the Health Insurance Marketplace (created by the Affordable Care Act, colloquially called “Obamacare”), Medicare and employer-provided insurance.
The U.S. has more than 1,100 health insurance companies, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
UnitedHealthcare, under the umbrella of UnitedHealth Group, is the largest health insurance company in the U.S. by revenue, according to Statista, a global data insights company. Kaiser Permanente is the largest by membership, with about 8.8 million members as of 2023.
Looking at companies by net premiums written, a metric insurance companies use to measure performance and revenue, these are the biggest U.S. health insurance companies:

- Humana
