Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Girls basketball
Manchester Valley 54, Tuscarora 26: Emma Penczek led the Mavericks (5-2) on both ends of the floor, scoring 13 points and collecting eight steals. She also handed out three assists. Lilah Kresslein backed her with 10 points. Brynn Bauer and Haylee Bittinger each chipped in seven points and Bauer adding two steals.
Boys basketball
Patterson Mill 65, C. Milton Wright 50: The Huskies got 17 points from Kai Gibson, 14 from James Hammond and 11 from Greyson McLaughlin as they topped the Mustangs. Colin Luddy chipped in nine points and Alex Kropp had eight.
Fallston 55, Crofton 44: The Cougars overtook the Cardinals with a 19-7 fourth quarter. Logan Sweitzer’s double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds led the win. John Wirth knocked down two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and finished with 11 points. Oliver Rueckert had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Elkton 60, Havre de Grace 58: Josiah Lawrence scored 26 points, but the visiting Warriors fell to the Golden Elks.
Southern 75, Digital Harbor 32: Daniel Lewis scored 20 points and added four steals to lead the Bulldogs to the nonconference win. Ethan Sheffey added 11 points, six assists and five steals. Anthony Thomas finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
