(NewsNation) — Multiple wildfires are ripping through parts of the Los Angeles, California, area, scorching thousands of acres.
There have been five deaths reported so far.
Wildfires in California
Palisades Fire
The blaze in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles was first reported as a vegetation fire around 10:30 a.m. PT Tuesday and has now grown to cover 17,234 acres.
There were a high number of injuries to residents who did not evacuate, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone said, as well as some wounded first responders.
Around 1,000 structures were destroyed, Marrone said.
Eaton Fire
A fire erupted around 7:30 p.m. PT in the Eaton Canyon area north of Altadena, California, roughly 40 miles east of the Pacific Palisades’ blaze. As of Wednesday morning, it has burned 10,600 acres.
Around 200 to 500 structures have been destroyed.
Hurst Fire
The Hurst Fire, which started at 10:29 p.m. Tuesday in Sylmar, Los Angeles County, has burned 855 acres since then.
Lidia Fire
The Lidia Fire is being reported at approximately 348 acres near the 5700 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Acton, according to Luis Garcia of the fire department’s media information line.
It is 40% contained.
Sunset Fire
The Sunset fire began at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday near the 2300 block of Solar Drive in the Hollywood Hills.
According to Cal Fire, it has burned 43 acres and is 0% contained.
