The National Hockey League’s dreams of a white NHL Winter Classic may come true on New Year’s Eve.

According to the National Weather Service, the city will likely see snow flurries Tuesday evening, however, a significant accumulation of snow is not anticipated. Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 30s beginning New Year’s Eve as it begins to cool down.

The city will be hosting two fireworks shows to ring in 2025, at both the river and Navy Pier. For those planning to watch the fireworks outdoors, temperatures are expected to dip into the 20s overnight.

But earlier Tuesday, Wrigley Field will be converted from a baseball park to a hockey stadium for the Chicago Blackhawks game against the St. Louis Blues. It is the third time the Blackhawks are hosting the marquee NHL event.

Fans are invited to attend Fan Fest ahead of the 4 p.m. game. Hosted by the NHL, the event will be held in the Cubs parking lot on West Grace Street with outdoor games, attractions and special appearances.

For fans figuring out transportation following the game or those with New Year’s Eve plans, the CTA will be offering free rides from 10 p.m. Dec. 31 until 4 a.m. Jan. 1.
