A manhunt was underway for a gunman who reportedly injured two people Monday evening inside a shopping mall in downtown Los Angeles.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of the shooting in the 700 block of South Figueroa Street, near the intersection of 7th Street, just before 9 p.m., authorities confirmed to KTLA.
Details were extremely limited, but early, unconfirmed reports suggested that the manager of the Target store in the Figat7th shopping mall called police about the gunman.
Police officials told KTLA that when responding officers arrived at the scene, they located two men suffering from gunshot wounds and requested medical personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Both victims, one of whom is reportedly a security guard, were rushed to nearby hospitals. One of them, according to police, was in serious condition, while the other was in fair condition.
The suspect, described as a white male with tight, curly hair, who was wearing a black jacket and gray pants with a gray backpack and scarf, reportedly fled in an unknown direction on Figueroa Street, police said.
In aerial footage of the scene captured by Sky5, a large police presence could be seen outside the mall as onlookers milled about and yellow tape cordoned off the entrance to the mall on the sidewalk.
Just blocks away, at 7th Street and Maple Avenue, police responded to another shooting at around 9:30 p.m. that left two other people hospitalized. It is unclear if the second shooting incident was related.
