Traffic was stalled on the busy 101 Freeway near downtown Los Angeles overnight after a car caught fire in the middle of the lanes, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol responded to a reported crash on southbound 101 near Broadway in downtown L.A. at about 11:54 p.m. Multiple cars collided, CHP said, causing one to burst into flames.
Images at the scene captured by Key News Network showed a sedan in flames in the middle of the freeway as traffic was stopped by authorities behind it.
All lanes of traffic were blocked until about 12:42 a.m.
It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was injured in the crash or the ensuing fire. The cause of the initial collision wasn’t immediately revealed.
