The Lockport Township District 205 Board is looking to fill a seat left vacant by member Zyan Navarra, who had filed to seek reelection.
The district said Wednesday in a news release Navarra notified the board president in November he “was married and living with his wife in a suburb outside of our high school district’s territory.” His resignation took effect Monday.
The district said state law requires residency in the district for board members, noting Navarra’s relocation disqualifies him from continuing to serve.
Navarra was a lifelong resident of Lockport who graduated from the district high school in 2014, according to the district website.
His biography on the site said he was committed to providing an educational experience that brings inspiration to students, seeing them develop into strong student advocates and community leaders.
The district said it is moving forward to fill the board vacancy and will share details regarding next steps. The board has not yet posted the date of its next meeting.
