(NewsNation) — MGR Govindarajan, District 8 alderperson for Madison, Wisconsin, expressed his sadness following the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in the city.
Govindarajan joined “NewsNation Now” to discuss the tragedy where three people were killed: a teacher, a teenage student and the teenage shooter.
The motive behind the attack is not known at the time of writing.
“This is a terrible thing, and it should not be happening,” Govindarajan said.
“I think it has become normalized in our society, and it really should not be because this is devastating to see,” he continued.
Police said the shooting was confined to one area, though it is not clear if it was a classroom or hallway. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes confirmed a handgun was used in the shooting.
“I am frustrated with how slow progress has been happening,” Govindarajan added. “I think it is going to be the younger folks slowly getting into politics that will make the change happen here in Madison.”
