One person is dead and another seriously injured following a two-vehicle collision in a Los Angeles neighborhood on Sunday, officials confirmed to KTLA.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said a call came in around 4:09 p.m. reporting a crash that left two people in critical condition, one of whom was trapped, in Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw.
Firefighters responded to the area of Don Lorenzo Drive and Stocker Street and began extricating the trapped passenger who officials only described as a man estimated to be in his 50s.
Once the man was pulled from the vehicle, both he and a passenger from the other car were transported to a hospital in critical condition, LAFD said. Officials did not immediately provide either patient’s identity.
A Los Angeles Police Department investigation into the crash revealed that one car was traveling southbound on Don Lorenzo Drive and was negotiating a turn onto eastbound Stocker Street when it crashed with the second car that was traveling westbound on Stocker Street.
The passenger from the first car later died in the hospital. Officials did not clarify whether this patient was the man who was extricated.
LAPD said the patient from the second vehicle is reported to be in stable condition, and that it appears both drivers are uninjured.
Details are limited, officials did not disclose if speed was a factor in this crash, or if there were other passengers in either car.
