GAITHERSBURG, Md. (DC News Now) — It looks to be a very Merry Christmas for children in need around Montgomery County, as roughly 75,000 presents have already been donated to the Montgomery County Toys for Tots program.
“I feel like a kid in a candy store when I come in here and see all these toys,” said Elizabeth Scott, the program’s director.
Scott said that the presents are at a record number for the organization. Toys for Tots expects to help over 30,000 children around the county this year, and they can pretty much guarantee two presents for each child.
The donations are kept at the new Toys for Tots warehouse located in Gaithersburg, next to the Montgomery County Airpark.
The organization lost its previous warehouse back in September, but the Baha’i Community of Montgomery County quickly stepped up and donated the building.
There’s just one problem.
“Every year we got to look for a spot to go,” Scott said.
However, she remains confident the community will help.
“Just think about caring that you’re supporting disadvantaged kids,” said Scott. “These kids need us.”
Dec. 17 is the last day to donate to this year’s Toys for Tots drive. The presents will be distributed to the children by Dec. 20.
