Police are asking for witnesses to help with an investigation after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a driver in Los Angeles County on Sunday afternoon.
According to the La Verne Police Department, dispatch received calls of an injury traffic collision around 4:55 p.m. on Dec. 8.
Officers responded to the intersection of Bonita Avenue and Damien Avenue and found an adult male pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.
La Verne Fire personnel soon responded to provide medical attention and transport the man, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the local hospital.
The department issued a release on Sunday evening saying the man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
According to police, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Details are limited, police did not immediately reveal whether the driver was distracted or if the pedestrian was unaware of the moving vehicle.
However, police did say that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor at this time.
Officials say the crash is being investigated by the La Verne Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team, and ask anyone with information to call the department at 909-596-1913.
“The La Verne Police Department extends its condolences to those affected by this tragic incident,” concluded the police report.
