The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in the San Fernando Valley that occurred late Friday night.
According to an LAPD media release, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon investigation around 11:15 p.m. in the 10400 block of Sepulveda Boulevard in the Mission Hills neighborhood.
Officers arrived and found that Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were already treating a male victim who had suffered a single gunshot wound to the lower torso.
The man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries despite life saving measures, LAPD said. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“Detectives canvassed the scene for witnesses and video evidence,” police stated. “The investigation revealed that a lone male suspect walked up to the victim in the rear parking lot of a retail location. The suspect shot the male victim and fled the area.”
As of 11 a.m. Saturday, the suspect remains outstanding.
