Shortly after 9:35 a.m., firefighters and paramedics discovered an Oak Park police officer had been shot on the left side, the release said. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was listed in critical condition.
Another person, the offender, was shot to the leg and went to the same hospital, where he was placed in custody.
A short time earlier the offender was seen leaving a bank on Lake Street with a gun, which prompted the initial police response, officials said..
