WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Washington, D.C. voters passed Initiative 83, which introduces ranked-choice voting to the District.
The initiative also created “semi-open” primaries, allowing independent voters to vote in a party’s primary election.
Ranked-choice voting is a voting method that will allow District residents to rank candidates in order of preference, instead of only selecting one candidate to vote for.
In this setup, if a voter’s first choice gets eliminated, their vote would count for their second choice — and so on.
