WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Here are our top 25 rankings of the best high school football teams in D.C., Maryland and northern Virginia. List comprised by DC News Now’s sports department. Records are as of Thursday afternoon.
1. Riverdale Baptist (8-0) – Last week: 4
Riverdale Baptist climbs to the No. 1 spot in our rakings after a 55-30 win over Hayfield in our Game of the Week.
2. DeMatha (7-1) – Last week: 1
DeMatha picks up another WCAC win, this time over St. John’s 31-15.
3. Madison (8-0) – Last week: 2
Madison dominates South Lakes 35-7 to remain undefeated on the season.
4. Quince Orchard (8-0) – Last week: 3
The Cougars hold on to defeat their rival Northwest 24-17, avenging last year’s playoff loss.
5. Wise (7-1) – Last week: 6
Wise cracks the top five with a 57-0 win over Bowie.
6. Battlefield (8-0) – Last week: 7
Battlefield improves to 8-0 after another shut out win, this time a 69-0 drubbing over Osbourn Park.
7. Hayfield (8-1) – Last week: 5
Hayfield suffers their first loss on the season to No. 1 Riverdale Baptist. The Hawks already played this week, defeating Justice 69-0.
8. Gonzaga (6-2) – Last week: 8
The Eagles shut out Bishop McNamara to pick up their sixth win on the season.
9. Good Counsel (4-4) – Last week: 9
Good Counsel had their bye week. They play Gonzaga Friday.
10. Paint Branch (7-1*) – Last week: 14
Paint Branch cracks the top ten after a 41-7 win over Blair.
11. St. John’s (5-3) – Last week: 10
The Cadets fall to No. 2 DeMatha 31-15. They hit their bye week before wrapping up the regular season with Gonzaga.
12. Linganore (8-0) – Last week: 12
Linganore remain undefeated after another blowout victory, this time over Gov. Thomas Johnson.
13. Friendship Collegiate (6-2) – Last week: 11
Friendship gets their second straight win, defeating Meade 32-21.
14. Washington-Liberty (8-0) – Last week: 15
Washington-Liberty continues to dominate the Liberty District. They destroy McLean 47-8. The Generals will play Langley Saturday to determine who wins the district.
15. John Champe (8-0) – Last week: 16
John Champe rolls over Park View 68-0. They are nearing the 300 offensive point threshold for the season.
16. Dunbar (7-1) – Last week: 13
Dunbar keeps on winning. The Crimson Tide narrowly defeat Theodore Roosevelt 21-14 to improve to 7-1.
17. Sherwood (7-1) – Last week: 17
The Warriors are now 7-1 after defeating Walter Johnson 47-19. They will face No. 4 Quince Orchard in our Game of the Week.
18. C.H. Flowers (6-2) – Last week: 18
Flowers crushes Parkdale, improving to 6-2 on the season.
19. Patriot (7-1) – Last week: 21
Patriot dominates Mountain View 42-7. The Pioneers have one more game before their rivalry match up vs. Battlefield.
20. Northwest (6-2) – Last week: 19
Northwest falls short of another upset win over Quince Orchard. The Jaguars are now 6-2.
21. Westfield (6-2) – Last week: 22
Westfield gets their sixth win on the season, defeating Oakton 42-6.
22. Lake Braddock (6-2) – Last week: 23
After starting 1-2, the Bruins have won five straight, recently defeating West Springfield 23-12.
23. Georgetown Prep (5-2) – Last week: 24
Georgetown Prep improves to 5-2 after a 46-0 shut out win over St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes.
24. Oakdale (6-2) – Last week: 25
Oakdale survives against Urbana, defeating the Hawks 31-28, remaining in our top 25.
25. Tuscarora (Va.) (7-1) – Last week: honorable mention
Tuscarora cracks the top 25 after winning their sixth straight game over Dominion 54-0.
