CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) held a ceremony on Thursday celebrating the signing of a 2% income tax cut bill.
Before the Special Session in October, Gov. Justice called for a 5% cut in the state’s personal income tax. On Oct. 7, the governor called for the legislature to reduce the tax by 2%, and the State Senate passed that bill the same day. The West Virginia House of Delegates passed it the following day.
Democrats worried the 5% cut would lead to financial cuts to critical state programs, but Gov. Justice disagreed and said the state could afford the tax cuts.
The personal income tax in the state has been cut by 25% over the past two years.
