FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Virginia State Police (VSP) said state troopers shot and killed a carjacking suspect after a chase on I-95 on Wednesday night.
Police said that at about 10:15 p.m., a trooper found a vehicle that was wanted by U.S. Park Police (USPP) for a carjacking.
VSP said the trooper tried to stop the vehicle but the driver, a man, refused, resulting in a pursuit.
During the chase, the suspect vehicle hit a Virginia State Police vehicle, which caused it to overturn.
The trooper did not suffer any injuries.
Eventually, state troopers were able to stop the car near the 150-mile marker.
During the stop, the driver refused multiple State Police commands.
VSP said the driver “made multiple abrupt furtive movements with his hands”, which caused the officers to shoot.
The driver died there.
A passenger, a man, was flown to Fairfax Hospital and is in stable condition.
A third passenger had no injuries and is in the custody of state police.
The four troopers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave.
