WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Here are our top 25 rankings of the best high school football teams in D.C., Maryland and northern Virginia. List comprised by DC News Now’s sports department. Records are as of Thursday afternoon.
1. DeMatha (6-1) – Last week: 2
DeMatha moves up to our No. 1 spot after defeating Good Counsel 35-7.
2. Madison (7-0) – Last week: 1
Madison drops one spot during the bye week to No. 2.
3. Quince Orchard (7-0) – Last week: 3
Quince Orchard destroys Richard Montgomery 44-6. They will take on their rival Northwest Friday.
4. Riverdale Baptist (7-0) – Last week: 4
Riverdale Baptist defeats Southern School of Energy from North Carolina 44-6. They will travel to take on Hayfield in our Game of the Week Friday.
5. Hayfield (7-0) – Last week: 5
Hayfield shuts out Mount Vernon 54-0. They get their biggest test of the year, hosting No. 4 Riverdale Baptist Friday night.
6. Wise (6-1) – Last week: 7
Wise defeated their rival Flowers 28-7, the first time this matchup wasn’t a one score game since 2019.
7. Battlefield (7-0) – Last week: 10
Battlefield beats up on Gainesville 29-6. The Bobcats move up to No. 7 in our rankings.
8. Gonzaga (5-2) – Last week: 11
Gonzaga enjoys the bye week before things ramp up next week, as they host Bishop McNamara Saturday.
9. Good Counsel (4-4) – Last week: 6
Good counsel fell 35-7 to No. 1 DeMatha. The Falcons will have to regroup over their bye week before their final two regular season games against Gonzaga and Bishop McNamara.
10. St. John’s (5-2) – Last week: 8
The Cadets blank Bishop McNamara 28-0, but due to Good Counsel losing, they fall two spots to No. 10.
11. Friendship Collegiate (5-2) – Last week: 9
Friendship bounces back after their horrific loss to St. Michael the Archangel with a 19-6 win over a 1-8 Mount Zion Prep.
12. Linganore (7-0) – Last week: 12
Linganore escapes Friday with a double OT win over Middletown.
13. Dunbar (6-1) – Last week: 14
Dunbar moves up one spot to No. 13 during their bye week. They host Roosevelt (DC) Saturday in a DCIAA Stars Division showdown.
14. Paint Branch (6-1*) – Last week: 15
Paint Branch dominates Blake 35-7, moving one spot up to No.14 in our rankings.
15. Washington-Liberty (7-0) – Last week: 17
The Generals hit their bye week with an incredible 7-0 start. They host McLean Friday in what should be another win for W-L.
16. John Champe (7-0) – Last week: 18
John Champe beat a quality Woodgrove opponent 40-28. At this point, it’s safe to say that no one can stop the Knight’s offense.
17. Sherwood (6-1) – Last week: 19
Sherwood shuts out Poolesville to improve to 6-1 on the season.
18. C.H. Flowers (5-2) – Last week: 13
Flowers drops their second game of the season, this time to No. 6 Wise 28-7.
19. Northwest (6-1) – Last week: 16
A week after losing their first game of the season to Paint Branch, Northwest guts out a 21-20 win over Churchill. Now, it’s the big game against their rival Quince Orchard.
20. Stafford (7-0) – Last week: 20
Stafford remains at No. 20 after defeating their rival North Stafford 26-22.
21. Patriot (6-1) – Last week: 25
Patriot destroys a much improved Osbourn team 48-7, moving the Pioneers up four spots to No. 21 in our rankings.
22. Westfield (5-2) – Last week: 21
Westfield defeats their rival Centreville 27-19. They will host Oakton Friday in what could be a closer game than people think.
23. Lake Braddock (5-2) – Last week: 24
Lake Braddock improves to 5-2 on the season after a convincing victory over Alexandria City 41-13.
24. Georgetown Prep (4-2) – Last week: honorable mention
The Little Hoyas climb into our top 25 after a narrow victory over St. Albans 25-20.
25. Oakdale (5-2) – Last week: honorable mention
Oakdale cracks the top 25 after a 48-20 win over Walkersville.
