WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Here are our top 25 rankings of the best high school football teams in D.C., Maryland and northern Virginia. List comprised by DC News Now’s sports department. Records are as of Thursday afternoon.
1. Madison (7-0) – Last week: 1
The Warhawks remain our No. 1 team in the DMV, after their narrow 26-21 victory over Westfield.
2. DeMatha (5-1) – Last week: 4
The Stags move up two spots to No. 2 after defeating Gonzaga 28-14. The road doesn’t get any easier, as they will travel to take on Good counsel in our Game of the Week.
3. Quince Orchard (6-0) – Last week: 2
The Cougars continue to dominate, picking up another shut out win over Seneca Valley 48-0.
4. Riverdale Baptist (6-0) – Last week: 3
The Crusaders escape Ohio with a 28-27 overtime win over Elder, keeping their perfect record in tact.
5. Hayfield (6-0) – Last week: 6
Hayfield cracks the top 5 for the first time this season. They clobbered Edison 70-6 to improve to 6-0.
6. Good Counsel (4-3) – Last week: 11
Good Counsel climbs all the way to No. 6 in our rankings after defeating St. John’s 28-13. A slow start to the season, but the Falcons are finding their stride as they host No. 2 DeMatha Friday.
7. Wise (5-1) – Last week: 12
The Pumas get back into the top ten after a 61-0 blowout over DuVal. They will travel to take on their rival Flowers on Saturday.
8. St. John’s (4-2) – Last week: 5
The Cadets take a slide in our rankings after losing to No. 6 Good Counsel 28-13.
9. Friendship Collegiate (4-2) – Last week: 8
Friendship takes an ugly loss on the road to St. Michael the Archangel 30-6.
10. Battlefield (6-0) – Last week: 10
The Bobcats enjoyed their bye week, and remain in our top ten with a record of 6-0.
11. Gonzaga (5-2) – Last week: 9
The Eagles fall out of the top ten after their loss to No. 2 DeMatha. They get the week off before continuing their WCAC schedule vs. Bishop McNamara.
12. Linganore (6-0) – Last week: 14
Linganore remains unbeaten on the season after an impressive 49-14 win over Frederick. They get a tough test Friday, as they travel to take on Middletown.
13. C.H. Flowers (5-1) – Last week: 13
Flowers destroys Bowie 46-0. The Jags now get their rival Wise at home on Saturday.
14. Dunbar (6-1) – Last week: 15
Dunbar blows out Ballou 34-0. The Crimson Tide are 6-1 heading into their bye week.
15. Paint Branch (5-1*) – Last week: 20
Paint Branch gets their first win over Northwest in school history in a 7-0 defensive battle, and with that win, move all the way to No. 15 in our rankings.
16. Northwest (5-1) – Last week: 7
After their loss to Paint Branch, Northwest falls to No. 16 in our rankings. The seven points given up to the Panthers are the only points the Jaguars have allowed all season.
17. Washington-Liberty (7-0) – Last week: 16
The Generals are 7-0, which is their best start in over 60 years! They continue to look the part, scoring over 40 points in six of their seven games.
18. John Champe (6-0) – Last week: 17
John Champe remains perfect on the season after defeating Loudoun County 28-21. They travel to take on a scrappy Woodgrove team Friday.
19. Sherwood (5-1) – Last week: 22
Sherwood picks up their fifth win on the season, destroying Damascus 41-7.
20. Stafford (6-0) – Last week: 23
Stafford cracks the top 20 on their bye week. They get their rival North Stafford Friday night.
21. Westfield (4-2) – Last week: 18
The Bulldogs nearly pulled ff the upset over No. 1 Madison on the road, however, fell 26-21.
22. Middletown (5-1) – Last week: 25
Middletown gets win No. 5 on the year, defeating Catoctin 43-6. The Knights will host No. 12 Linganore Friday.
23. Colonial Forge (6-1) – Last week: 24
Colonial Forge gets a big win over Mountain View 23-13 to improve to 6-1.
24. Lake Braddock (4-2) – Last week: 21
The Bruins remain in our top 25 after their bye week. They travel to face Alexandria City Friday.
25. Patriot (5-1) – Last week: Honorable Mention
The Pioneers are back in the top 25 after defeating Gainesville 35-20.
