WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Here are our top 25 rankings of the best high school football teams in D.C., Maryland and northern Virginia. List comprised by DC News Now’s sports department. Updated as of Thursday at 12 p.m.
1. Madison (6-0) – Last week: 1
Madison remains our No. 1 team after defeating South County 42-0. They host Westfield in a Concorde District showdown Thursday night.
2. Quince Orchard (5-0) – Last week: 2
Quince Orchard stays right on the heels of Madison, coming in at No. 2 after defeating Blair 42-6.
3. Riverdale Baptist (5-0) – Last week: 3
Riverdale Baptist enjoyed the bye week. They travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on Elder on Friday.
4. DeMatha (4-1) – Last week: 4
DeMatha blanks Life Christian 35-0. The Stags kick off WCAC play with Gonzaga on Saturday.
5. St. John’s (4-1) – Last week: 5
St. John’s picks up a 17-9 road win over Cornerstone Christian Academy from San Antonio, Texas. They get Good Counsel Friday night on the road in their first WCAC game of the season.
6. Hayfield (5-0) – Last week: 6
Hayfield continues to put up video game numbers, as they decimate Falls Church 64-0.
7. Northwest (5-0) – Last week: 8
Northwest jumps up one spot to No. 7 after an impressive 31-0 win over BCC. The Jags have yet to allow a point through five games.
8. Friendship Collegiate (4-1) – Last week: 7
After losing their first game of the season to St. John’s, Friendship enjoyed a much needed bye week. They travel on the road to face St. Michael the Archangel on Saturday in a battle of one loss teams.
9. Gonzaga (5-1) – Last week: 9
Gonzaga picks up another win, this time a tight 23-16 win over a solid Benedictine squad. The Eagles will have to bring their A game on Saturday, as they take on No. 4 DeMatha in their first WCAC game of the season.
10. Battlefield (6-0) – Last week: 10
The Bobcats are 6-0 on the season after picking up another 56-7 blowout win over Unity Reed.
11. Good Counsel (3-3) – Last week: 12
Good Counsel gets back to .500 on the season after a 46-8 win over Glen Burnie. They host No. 5 St. John’s Friday in our Game of the Week.
12. Wise (4-1) – Last week: 11
Wise cruises to another victory, defeating Laurel 53-0.
13. C.H. Flowers (4-1) – Last week: 13
Flowers destroys Northwestern 57-0. They get one of their rivals, Bowie, Friday afternoon.
14. Linganore (5-0) – Last week: 14
Linganore is 5-0 for the first time since 2021 after defeating Tuscarora (MD) 42-6.
15. Dunbar (5-1) – Last week: 15
Dunbar remains in our top 15 as they pick up a 41-0 shut out over Jackson-Reed.
16. Washington-Liberty (6-0) – Last week: 18
Washington-Liberty is 6-0 and off to their best start in over two decades. They get George Marshall Thursday in a Liberty District showdown at home.
17. John Champe (5-0) – Last week: 19
John Champe moves up two spots in our rankings on their bye week. The Knights get Loudoun County Thursday.
18. Westfield (4-1) – Last week: 20
Westfield is 4-1 under new head coach Scott Vossler. The Bulldogs get their biggest test of the season Thursday night, as they travel to take on No. 1 Madison.
19. Theodore Roosevelt (5-0) – Last week: 17
Roosevelt remains undefeated, but drop two spots in our rankings after a narrow victory over Eastern 15-14.
20. Paint Branch (4-0) – Last week: honorable mention
Paint Branch cracks our top 25 after defeating Wheaton 48-14 and improving to 4-0.
21. Lake Braddock (4-2) – Last week: 21
Lake Braddock remains at No. 21 after demolishing Woodson 55-14.
22. Sherwood (4-1) – Last week: 24
Sherwood slides up two spots after blanking Gaithersburg 35-0.
23. Stafford (6-0) – Last week: honorable mention
Stafford cracks our top 25 after their impressive 6-0 start to the season. The Indians are on a bye this week.
24. Colonial Forge (5-1) – Last week: honorable mention
Colonial Forge is back in our top 25 after a dominant 49-16 win over Massaponax.
25. Middletown (4-1) – Last week: 16
Middletown drops to No. 25 after suffering their first loss of the season to Oakdale 34-28.
