Mayor Brandon Scott has been selected to serve jury duty, joining thousands of Baltimoreans selected to serve every year. The mayor confirmed he will serve in Baltimore Circuit Court in a news release Thursday.
“Jury service is one of our most important civic duties, which ensures our judicial system functions properly,” Scott said. “While being selected was somewhat a surprise, I will fulfill my responsibilities as an alternate juror proudly and fairly.”
A spokesperson for Scott’s office said the mayor had previously been selected, but wasn’t able to say whether the mayor had been seated before. Nor was it immediately clear what kind of trial Scott would be serving, given restrictions on jurors speaking about their service.
