He once dated TV presenter Davina McCall (pictured together in 1992)
Speaking about the release date of Meanwhile, he told Blues Rock Review: ‘I had to fight to get out because it was going to be pushed back til next year.’
Eric added, ‘It’s really a collection of the stuff that I’ve done over the last three, four years that we did at home. I played the guitar with a drum machine or a click.
‘Then it got sent to L.A. where Nathan (East) would play bass and Sonny (Emory) in Atlanta would play drums.
‘And all of this stuff was forced on us by the governments who wouldn’t let us play together, so I thought let’s get it all out. It’s called Meanwhile and it’s nice. It’s good stuff.’
He continued: ‘It’s a little inhibited because it was all home recorded but I need to get it out there. We’ll try some of those songs (on tour) but I’m more likely to play stuff that we know well that the audience expect to hear.’
Eric started his music career busking and playing in small pubs in the early 1960s.
He then joined blues band, The Yardbird, and enjoyed success with the hit ‘For Your Love’ before leaving.
The star then gained more recognition as part of the band, Cream, and very quickly became known as one of the UK’s top guitarists
Following the split of the band in 1968, Eric started to work on solo music.
His debut album, Eric Clapton, was released in 1970 and peaked at number 14 in the UK charts.
Since releasing his first album, the popular guitarist has brought out a further 19 solo albums.
He is well known for hits including Layla, Wonderful Tonight and Tears in Heaven, and was ranked number two on the Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list.
