Samantha Hanratty revealed that her baby boy will be born with a cleft lip as she gave her followers the ‘latest update’ in her pregnancy in a TikTok video on Wednesday.
The Yellowjackets star, 29 – who announced last month in August she is expecting her first child with husband Christian DeAnda – opened up to her fans about the ‘shocking’ news.
While sitting outside, the actress filmed herself enjoying the fresh air as she showed off her growing baby bump in a hot pink sports bra as well as comfy, black sweatpants.
Hanratty then began to explain, ‘I thought I would share our latest update – that our baby is going to have a cleft lip, and a possible cleft palette.’
‘And at first, the news was obviously shocking because it doesn’t run in my family, it doesn’t run in my husband’s family. And the biggest thing that we all want is that we want our kids to be happy and we want our kids to be healthy.’

Hanratty then began to explain, ‘I thought I would share our latest update – that our baby is going to have a cleft lip, and a possible cleft palette’
Samantha then added, ‘finding out so soon in our son’s life he’s going to be getting surgeries done. And I have already met with some specialists that I’m very very excited that we are in such beautiful and wonderful hands.’
However, the star admitted that, ‘It’s still scary to think that your precious little baby is going under anesthesia and that, you know, there’s going to be difficulties.’
Hanratty expressed that she is ‘preparing’ to ‘not nurse’ and instead will do ‘pumping and formula.’
‘And it’s been emotional, but I think that both me and my husband are at peace with the fact that we know he’s going to be okay.’
Samantha continued, ‘And that we are just in a really fortunate place to have some of the best care, and we’re very lucky to have so many people in our family who are in the medical field.’
The Shameless actress expressed to her fans, ‘This was just a little bit of a different journey than what he had expected.’
‘I’m not gonna lie and pretend this has been the easiest of news, but I’m also, like I said, just incredibly grateful for how fortunate we are.’
Hanratty then explained that, ‘One in 700 children are born with a cleft lip and/or palette. We’re praying that it’s just in the lip, and not in the palette because there’s more difficulties when it comes to closing things up, further surgeries.’

In conclusion, the star added, ‘But we’re prepared for either way. And so yeah. Anytime I get a little sad or a little scared, he kicks me.’

The mom-to-be later jumped to the comment section and shared, ‘Grieving not being able to breastfeed but I’m coming to terms with it. Hearing other people’s stories especially with nursing is helping a lot♥️.’

However, she soon took another test and filmed herself in the bathroom as she waited for the results to come through.
Upon seeing the test come back as positive, she threw her hand to her mouth and repeatedly said, ‘No way,’ while holding up the test towards the camera.
