MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A fire broke out at an elementary school in Montgomery County on Tuesday night.
First responders with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded to Joann Leleck Elementary School in the 700 block of Beakon Road shortly after 9 p.m.
Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the department, said the school was under construction and the fire was venting from the roof. When they arrived at the scene, crews noticed heavy fire conditions.
As of 9:30 p.m., it was a 2-alarm fire.
Since the fire was on the roof, Piringer noted it would be difficult to access.
In an update made shortly after 10:30 p.m., Piringer said 75 firefighters were at the scene, still actively fighting the fire. No one was hurt.
