The View is set to make history on Wednesday. The ladies will welcome the first-ever sitting president to the show for a live interview when Joe Biden appears later this week. Whoopi Goldberg first announced the news during today’s broadcast.
“We have some wonderful news,” she began. “You want me to tell you? I have a historic announcement: This Wednesday, we are honored to have the sitting President of the United States Joe Biden, [who] will be live on The View with us.”
Her announcement was met with whoops and cheers in the audience, and Goldberg was sure to add, “Let us not forget, he is still President of the United States of America.”
President Barack Obama previously appeared on The View during his time in office, but his segment was pre-recorded, while Biden’s will be taped live, per a press release shared with DECIDER.
The release notes, “The exclusive appearance marks the first live appearance by a sitting president on the show and the second time a sitting president has visited, following former President Barack Obama’s history-making visit, which aired July 29, 2010.
“President Biden joins Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro in the show’s new NYC studio to discuss his legacy, including the administration’s accomplishments, his hopes for the remaining months in the White House, and the state of the 2024 campaign,” the release also states.
Biden has stopped by The View plenty of times over the years. He first joined the Hot Topics table in September 2007, and later made history during his April 2010 episode as the first time a sitting vice president was on the show.
Per The View‘s press release, Biden made four appearances in total during the Obama administration, the last of which took place in 2017. He also granted his first interview to the show after announcing his campaign for president in 2019. His most recent appearance on The View took place in 2020.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
