WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – As Election Day gets closer the presidential candidates are clashing on the campaign trail.
Vice President Harris and former President Trump are sparring over key policy differences and whether to have another debate.
Vice President Harris says she’s already committed to another debate on CNN in late October and now she’s challenging former President Trump to agree to it too.
“Join me on the debate stage, let’s have another debate. There’s more to talk about and the voters of America deserve to hear,” said Harris.
Former President Trump says it’s not going to happen.
“The problem with another debate is that it’s just too late. Voting has already started,” said Trump.
Even without another debate stage face off the candidates are clashing on the campaign trail attacking each other’s views on top issues like immigration and abortion.
“Now in more than 20 states, we have Trump abortion bans, many with no exceptions, even for rape and incest. It is immoral,” said Harris.
Trump shot back, arguing if he wins the White House, “Women will be happy, healthy, confident and free. You will no longer be thinking about abortion, because it is now where it always had to be: with the states.”
The opponents are also drawing a contrast on the economy with the former president promising to cut costs for Americans.
“The price of household goods will start to plummet, groceries and rent will no longer break your budget, and you will have thousands of dollars in savings,” said Trump.
While the vice president says she has plans to create an opportunity economy.
“To invest in the aspirations and ambitions of the American people while addressing the challenges they face,” said Harris.
Later this week the vice president is set to give an address outlining more of the specifics in her economic vision.
