Perry Farrell‘s wife Etty Lau Farrell is sharing an update on her husband following his onstage altercation with guitarist Dave Navarro during a Jane’s Addiction concert.
Etty Lau shared in an Instagram post on Saturday, Sept. 21, that Perry, 65, is taking time to “reflect and heal” and is seeing an otolaryngologist and neurologist after the cancellation of the band’s tour following his public outburst onstage towards Navarro, 57, on Sept. 13.
First noting that she and her husband are “beyond grateful” for the support they’ve received, Etta Lau next thanked supporters for “checking in over and over again to make sure we are well taken care of. Offering love and compassion … and even your homes for us to escape to.”
She then described Perry as “the gentlest of souls” and told fans that “we are equally astonished at Perry’s physical outburst as you are.”
“But you must know that Perry must had been pushed to his absolute limit … to that end we apologize,” Etty Lau said.

Speaking about the band’s tour cancellation, Etty Lau then wrote, “We are taking a bit of time to ourselves to reflect and to heal. Perry already has appointments with a otolaryngologist and a neurologist.”
An otolaryngologist is a medical professional who treats conditions affecting the ears, nose and throat, while a neurologist treats conditions in the brain and nervous system.
“If you know and love Perry well, you know there’s no need for me to address the other false narratives. Our souls know,” Etty Lau continued. “With all of your love, kindness, compassion and support, you know, Perry will persevere. He will recover. He will be happy again. He will once again be able to share his music, vision and artistry — unbridled.”
“Make no mistake when he’s ready he will take another giant leap over obstacles to make us laugh, think, while changing the world together,” Etty Lau concluded before she thanked fans again for their support.
Representatives for Perry did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on the health update his wife shared.
The update on Perry’s condition comes after his wife shared in a social media post on Sept. 14 that he “had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night” while performing on tour.
Jane’s Addiction issued a “heartfelt apology” to fans in a separate statement at the time, shortly after the incident.
Announcing the early end of their tour, the group wrote, “To all the fans, the band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be canceling the remainder of the tour.” Perry was not directly acknowledged in the message.
Perry, meanwhile, apologized for his outburst in a statement on his Instagram Stories.
“This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show,” he wrote at the time.
“Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation,” Perry continued.
