MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Montgomery County police are investigating after officers came across a woman who was stabbed while responding to the scene of a furniture store fire in Silver Spring on Saturday night.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD), fire personnel and MCPD officers responded to the 8500 block of Piney Branch Road at around 11:15 p.m. for a building fire.
Shortly after arriving, crews who were working the fire were approached by a woman who had been stabbed multiple times, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).
Paramedics immediately treated the woman, who was in serious condition and transported her to Medstar.
Meanwhile, crews extinguished the fire, which occurred at Casa Furniture. It left $1 million in damages, according to MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer.
Piringer said the fire originated in the store’s storage room and displaced two people. No one was injured.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation; however, “several ignition sequence theories are plausible,” according to Piringer.
As of Sunday night, the injured woman and the fire are under investigation, and it is unclear whether they are related.
