A 39-year-old man was fatally wounded and another man was injured in a shooting Thursday night on the West Side in the Lawndale neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 11:15 p.m., two men, 39 and 42, were standing in the street in the 1500 block of South Kenneth Avenue when someone approached and opened fire striking the victims before fleeing in a dark colored sedan.
The younger man suffered multiple wounds including one to the back of the head. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Carlos A. Grays of the 1300 block of South Christiana, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The other victim suffered wounds to the stomach, shoulder and buttocks, and was taken to the same hospital in fair condition, police said.
No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
