WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced Tuesday that two final gang members were found guilty in the murder of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson. This comes after five gang members were convicted of Makiyah’s murder in June of 2023.
A Superior Court jury returned guilty verdicts for 30-year-old Mark Price and 31-year-old Antonio Murchison on Sept. 3.
In the courtroom on Tuesday, the jury found Price and Murchison guilty of first-degree murder while armed, conspiracy to commit a crime of violence, participation in a criminal street gang, obstruction of justice, and multiple counts of assault with intent to kill while armed and related firearms offenses.
Officials said the pair were members of the “Wellington Park crew” in Washington D.C.
The jury also found 31-year-old Quanisha Ramsuer guilty of obstruction of justice in connection to the investigation.
In July of 2018, Price and Murchison, along with three other gang members drove to the Clay Terrace community with guns. The trial revealed that Price was driving and briefly stopped to allow the group to exit the car.
That’s when they began shooting in the Clay Terrace courtyard firing more than 50 rounds and injuring several people.
Makiyah was sitting on the front stoop of her home when she was hit and killed.
Despite having witnessed the group preparing for the shooting, no witnesses were willing to provide information on who the shooters were. Officials said throughout the case, the government presented forensic evidence, statements the gang made over social media and motive evidence.
As the investigation developed, detectives learned that Ramsuer lived in or hung out in the Wellington Park neighborhood most of her life and knew the gang members. Officials said one of them was her cousin.
Investigators obtained surveillance video that showed Ramsuer interacting with the group as they loaded into the vehicle before the shooting. She was also captured on video interacting with one of the members who orchestrated the attack but remained behind.
Despite this evidence, Ramsuer refused to identify the people she engaged with in the video and was charged with obstruction of justice.
According to the Attorney’s Office sentences are scheduled for Dec. 13, 2024.
