Thousands of runners and walkers were in San Pedro Monday for the 15th annual Conquer the Bridge Race.
The race, which involves a 5.3-mile course on the Vincent Thomas Bridge, was “created for those who sought a challenge unlike any other in Southern California racing circles,” wrote race creator Michael-Patrick Hogue, who died on Christmas Eve last year.
“We will always smile more for having known Michael-Patrick Hogue,” race organizers said on the event’s website.
While Hogue is missing, the smiles continue for organizers, fans and participants alike, even after the race.
This year, the event is being followed by a festival with yoga, live music and food in front of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum at 600 S. Harbor Blvd.
“The first-ever post-race festival is another opportunity for our community to serve as a venue for culture, creativity, and camaraderie,” said Ryan Blaney, executive director of the nonprofit Discover San Pedro. “We invite the community and all fitness enthusiasts to join us for a day of fun, fitness, and celebration.”
