Crean Lutheran offensive lineman Jacob Maiava, who enrolled at the school during the offseason after leaving Santa Margarita, has been ruled ineligible to play for the Saints this football season, according to the CIF Southern Section.
On the section’s website, the senior’s transfer eligibility status is listed as “denied” and states that Maiava is “ineligible in football at Crean Lutheran High School until August 8, 2025.”
Maiava, who is 6-foot-2 and 290 pounds, is committed to SMU.
A second-team All-County selection last season, Maiava recently received an offer from Colorado.
After a great conversation with coach Loadholt, I am truly blessed and honored to have received another D1 offer to the University of Colorado football. #GoBuffs🦬 pic.twitter.com/mAp3usSsQ2

Crean Lutheran coach Rick Curtis confirmed on Aug. 9 that Maiava enrolled at his school.
Maiava is the second high-profile football transfer in Orange County to be denied eligibility this season at their new school. Tustin quarterback Michael “Butter” Tollefson was denied eligibility at Tustin this season after his transfer from JSerra.
Crean Lutheran (2-0) has opened the season with victories against Mullen of Colorado (35-12) and St. Pius X-St. Matthias (56-14). The Saints play host to Liberty of Winchester on Friday.
