MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Families and community members will have the chance to come together for an afternoon of fun at the 10th annual Montgomery County “Friendship Picnic” on Sunday, Sept. 15.
The event will be held from noon until 5 p.m. at Wheaton Regional Park. It will feature music, dancing, face painting, a petting zoo, a moon bounce, a carousel and rides on the park’s miniature train.
Free lunch, including traditional American Kosher, Halal, Ethiopian and vegan options, will also be provided.
The picnic aims to unite people of many faiths and cultures to celebrate Montgomery County’s diversity. According to the county, the picnic is an initiative of the Montgomery County Committee Against Hate/Violence (CAHV), which works to eliminate acts of intimidation and hate.
Besides festive fun, there will also be opportunities for small group conversations, where attendees can discuss moving toward a safer, nonviolent community.
“Over the last decade, our ‘Friendship Picnic’ has become a County tradition for diverse communities to gather and celebrate the County’s inclusivity,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “This picnic demonstrates that we are a place where people of all cultures, backgrounds and faiths can come together, learn from each other and build lasting relationships. I invite all residents to join this gathering.”
A free satellite parking shuttle will be available to and from the Wheaton Ice Rink and athletic fields at 11717 Orebaugh Ave.
Registration is not required, and everyone is invited to attend. For more information, call 240-777-8454.
