THE £2 bus fare cap and plans to build new roads could be scrapped to save cash, government insiders warn.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves plans big tax rises and spending cuts in her October Budget.
It comes after Labour claimed there was a £22billion black hole in the nation’s finances.
Ex-PM Rishi Sunak extended the £2 bus fare cap to the end of the year and vowed to go on a road building spree.
But these projects are expected to be chucked on the scrapheap, Whitehall insiders claim.
One said: “Since getting in, Labour have only really talked about rail and trains.
“So it looks like roads and bus fares are in the danger zone.”
Fuel duty could also be hiked for the first time in over a decade.
And there are fears that Labour could look at imposing a pay-per-mile car road tax.
Transport Minister Simon Lightwood said: “Delivering reliable and affordable public transport services is one of my top priorities.
“I know how important this is for passengers and for local growth.
“The Government is considering the most effective and affordable ways to deliver this.”
