The Netflix basketball series following Lebron James, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, Domantas Sabonis and Jayson Tatum has been confirmed, with October 9 premiere.
The streamer’s Starting 5 comes from James’ Uninterrupted in association with the Obamas’ Higher Ground and Peyton Manning‘s Omaha Productions. It is Netflix’s latest high-end sport series and will launch in just a few weeks’ time. Reports emerged last year.
Modeled after Quarterback, Starting 5 provides an intense, behind-the-scenes look at the 2023-24 NBA season through the eyes of five of the league’s biggest players. It captures their battles on and off the court as they chase greatness, push through injuries, and balance the demands of family and legacy.
Netflix has worked with James’ Uninterrupted before on sports shows including Hustle and Neymar: The Perfect Chaos. Meanwhile, the Obamas’ Higher Ground is also prepping a series about the Olympic men’s basketball series, which will launch next year.
EPs for Stating 5 are Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, Philip Byron and Randy Mims (for UNINTERRUPTED); President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Vinnie Malhotra and Ethan Lewis (for Higher Ground); Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz and Sam Pepper (for Omaha).
