Trump Leaves Medal of Honor Heroes Waiting for an Hour, a Hot Mic Catches Their Frustration—Then He Shows Up Bitter They Stole His Spotlight

Veterans had already shown extraordinary patience under pressure during a recent event in Texas hosted by President Donald Trump.

A hot mic captured a restless hero whose endurance was tested by the president’s disrespectful shenanigans.

A few fed-up veterans were caught airing the whole scheduling fiasco—and made it clear who was responsible.

Trump visited the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday, Sept. 10, to meet recipients of the nation’s highest military decoration.

The high-profile appearance served as a prelude to his evening keynote address at the Republican midterm convention in nearby Dallas.

His afternoon tour was scheduled for noon local time.

However, the president reportedly entered the museum nearly 50 minutes later. He was late and kept the servicemen waiting.

An open microphone captured one recipient wondering when the main attraction would appear.

“Is he ever going to show up?” the veteran asked someone off-camera. “He’s in the building,” another person off camera replied.

A separate clip showed a woman approaching a veteran seated in a wheelchair. When she apparently asked what he was doing, he replied, “I am waiting for Trump.”

“He’s coming,” she assured him.

AFP White House correspondent Danny Kemp, who attended the event, also reported hearing another veteran say something. He tweeted that the vet was waiting for Trump “to talk to him, because I gotta lotta things to say.”

People on X had plenty to say, too. “ZERO RESPECT for ANYONE,” one person wrote. Another said, “They should have just left.”

One critic declared, “You are potatoes to Trump!” “Such disrespect shown to the Medal of Honor winners,” someone else wrote.

“He does this to everyone. When will they figure it out. Make him wait for once,” one observer clocked.

“Trump disrespects their time. Do each of these men support trump? If so, they need to open their eyes and ears,” another posted.

“He’s always late for everything. He’s ignorant and rude smh,” one person concluded.

As for his trip to Arlington, Trump eventually showed up with a bitter attitude to meet with the veterans and tour the museum.

The White House did not explain why his museum entrance was delayed. His Texas trip had already hit a snag the day before: an evacuation slide accidentally deployed on the Qatari-gifted Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews.

The president waited aboard Marine One for roughly 20 minutes while crews deflated and removed it, saying they were checking to ensure “everything works perfectly.” Reuters said the deployment was accidental, and the plane later departed safely.

During a photo opportunity, another hot-mic moment reportedly captured Trump discussing some sort of investment worth $20 trillion.

In jest, before he left them, he claimed that one of the elderly veterans seated in a wheelchair did not “understand money.”

This was supposed to be a joke, but it added an awkward start to an event intended to celebrate battlefield valor.

Then the ceremony took a familiar turn when Trump couldn’t help but make it about him. He said he wanted a medal.

“I want for myself a Congressional Medal of Honor, and I’ve studied it and I will give it to myself, I have no problem, but I’m not allowed to. Can you believe it?” he said, before adding, “The one thing I’m not allowed to do, I would give it to myself, so it would make it instead of 15, we’d have 16. I’m only kidding. Actually, I’m not kidding.”

Trump did not receive the Medal of Honor. The museum foundation instead presented him with its “Champion of Honor” award and named him an honorary director.

His history of keeping prominent people waiting stretches beyond military events.

In July 2018, Queen Elizabeth II greeted Donald and Melania Trump outside Windsor Castle, where cameras caught her checking her watch after their 12-minute delay, according to the Washington Post.

Trump claimed he arrived early, but video showed otherwise. He then stopped abruptly, forcing her to walk around him.

In August, Trump reportedly kept the Artemis II astronauts waiting for roughly 45 minutes at Houston’s Johnson Space Center. The ceremony honored four people with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor following their historic lunar flyby.

The crew had already traveled farther into deep space than any humans in history. Yet the final leg of their mission appeared to involve sitting in a packed room and waiting for the president to find the launchpad.

Once Trump arrived, he presented all four astronauts with their medals and joked that he did not like speaking with them because they looked “too good.”
