Tropical Storm Norbert currently has sustained winds of 40 mph and is moving west at 13 mph.

Norbert strengthened from Tropical Depression Fourteen-E several hundred miles southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

The storm was designated Invest 96E on Tuesday and shortly after, became Tropical Depression Fourteen-E.

“Current long-range forecasts have this system continue to move east and potentially in the direction of Hawaii, but that is over a week and a half away,” the FOX Forecast Center said.

“There is plenty of time for forecasts to change and evolve.”

El Niño is typically associated with reduced tropical cyclone activity in the Atlantic Basin and increased storm activity in the Eastern and Central Pacific basins, along with a host of other weather impacts around the world outside of hurricane season.
